Veterinary Team

Dr. Reichert
The veterinary team will be led by Chief Vet Dr. Reichert. Dr. Reichert is an experienced vet in sled dog racing with a number of years of clinical practice.

The other vets are listed below. There will be four or more vet techs on the trail at all times to provide emergency care. A number of vet clinics are located along the route, which are able to provide support in the event of an emergency.

There will be a vet check prior to the start of the race as well as a mandatory vet check at the halfway layover. Mushers will receive feedback from vets as to their level of care, how they are doing, and what they need to work on. This will ensure that mushers are taking appropriate care of their athletes and are also receiving advice on the best possible dog care.

During the race, the vets will be able to provide care to the dogs on site. If a dog needs medication, the cost of the medication will be the responsibility of the musher. In the event of an emergency, it will be the responsibility of the musher/handler crew to transport a dog to the 24 hour emergency vet clinic located in Fargo, ND.
